Laura grew up in Lombard, IL and Glen Ellyn, IL, graduating from Glenbard West, home of the Hilltoppers. She worked as a picture framer during college. With a degree in fine art and a lot of writing classes under her belt, but no real plan, she continued to work in picture framing or at office jobs over the years. For eighteen years Laura called Colorado home (and still does). Living in the dog friendly town of Evergreen, Colorado, and working in a dog friendly office, adding a dog to her life made sense. Having fallen in love with a neighbor’s Blue Heeler, Laura decided that was the kind of dog I wanted. Low and behold, a man showed up at her work place looking to re-home his Blue Heeler/Lab mix due to having to downsize. Laura didn’t hesitate to claim Lady, a 10 month old beauty. The bond was instant and further forged by a profound event. After being together for only six weeks, she survived a mountain lion attack that happened during one of our hikes. The cougar grabbed her by the head, causing a severe fracture that has left her suffering from seizures ever since. Lady is nine years old now, and sharing lives has played a big part in defining Laura. Lady has been a companion on road trips, camping trips and hikes. Taking her to the dog park is a daily ritual that acts as an oasis from stress.
After returning to the western suburbs of Chicago for family issues, it makes sense that Laura’s life has gone to the dogs! Each pet has his or her own story. Every pet needs an oasis. Laura tries to bring a little oasis to their days and to play a part in their happy stories.
